In support of the global aim to end violence, the Don Honorio Ventura State University joined forces with the rest of the country and kicked off the 18-Day Campaign for Ending Violence Against Women on November 25 with the theme “Violence-free community starts with me.”

Clad in orange, DHVSU students, teachers, employees, and officials squeezed together in front of the Administration Building for a flag ceremony and opening program headed by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Dolores T. Quiambao, who is also the University’s Gender and Development Focal Person.

Following the program was a signature campaign to further strengthen the advocacy and a parade around the University grounds, actively participated in by the DHVSU community. A series of contests, seminars and exciting activities, which are reflected in the Upcoming Events section, are scheduled throughout the duration of the campaign.

The 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women is an annual observance that runs from November 25 to December 12 and is pursuant to Proclamation 1172, series of 2006, enjoining all department and agencies of the government to actively support and participate in the protection of human rights of women against violence and all other forms of discrimination. This is anchored on the international campaign against gender-based violence initiated by the Women Leadership Institute at Reuters University, New Jersey, USA in 1991 that started in November 25, which is the International Day to Eliminate VAW up to December 10, which is the International Human Rights Day, to “emphasize that VAW is a human rights violation and to ensure better protection for survivors and victims of violence.”
