Overview

HISTORY OF DHVSU PORAC CAMPUS

Sometime in the year Two Thousand and Twelve, Mayor Carlito Dela Cruz envisioned change and development in the municipality of Porac to uplift the status of every Poraqueno family. What started as a dream (to put up a Community College and to help Poraquenos attain a college diploma) became a reality thru the partnership with Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU), now Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU), under the leadership of Dr. Enrique G. Baking. The school was formally established on March 12, 2012 with the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement and the laying of the foundation for the future site of the school.

Thus then, DHVTSU Porac campus was established and started to offer ladderized courses on Hotel and Restaurant Management, Information, Technical Teacher Education and Industrial technology. Its establishment was fully recognized by the community as it has attracted 497 students coming from different barangays of Porac. It also paved the way for the Aetas to attain college education as 52 Aeta students enrolled in the various programs. They were given full scholarships, free board and lodging, meals and other materials needed in their education.

The LGU of Porac, through the leadership of Mayor Dela Cruz, continues to strengthen the DHVTSU Porac campus with the construction of 14 classrooms, Chemistry Laboratory, Physics Laboratory, Industrial Technology (Electricity) Laboratory, Kitchen/Food Laboratory, Library, Computer Laboratory, student centers and faculty lounge. Several donations were acquired and these were made through the benevolence of Non-Government Organizations and Government Officials. A two-classroom building was donated by the Filipino-Chinese of Commerce Inc. and a Multi-purpose hall was constructed thru the help of Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, while the Administration Building was renovated thru the Rotary International of South Korea. The old site on which the University lies is located at the Model Community, Barangay Pio.

A “New Site” was donated by the Dizon-Tolentino families that is located in the same barangay Pio where a Two-Storey building with eight classrooms and two rooms for the faculty and office use was constructed through the priority development fund of Senator Lito Lapid and a Student Center, through the office of Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The Province of Pampanga, through the unwavering support of Governor Lilia Pineda, donated 300 armchairs. She has likewise extended assistance for the education of the Aeta students such as payment of tuition fees, free supply of rice and canned goods.

With the entry of Ayala Land Inc. and its need of around 5000 work force for its Industrial Park, the good Mayor of Porac is confident that the DHVTSU Porac Campus can fully meet the demands of future development and by the many opportunities unfolding to every Poraquenos, a more productive and self-sustaining municipality will evolve in the coming years. This would also mean that the said extension campus finds its abode in the town of Porac as the late Don Felino Gil, one of the University’s co-founder, was a residence of this place.
