Bachelor of Elementary Education 2-year Accomplishments

Change came in our way. The pandemic brought the biggest change in education, from blackboards to screen, from chalks to electronic pens, and from “stand up, let us pray” to “turn on your cams for the opening prayer”. The DCC conducted a pure online setup in its first year. The BEEd instructors did their best to give a good quality of education for the students. Establishing a “student centered” class in an online set up has never been easy, but despite the struggles that the BEEd instructors had encountered the online set up did not become a barrier to emphasize student centered instruction in each class. The students showed their best in their teaching demonstrations. The teaching demonstration will be a bridge for them to be an effective teacher in the future.

The BEEd department also built an organization and this was named “Society of the Elementary Educators” it is also known as “SEEds”. The organization created various activities that help the students in DCC to boost their confidence. The organization also participated in the different events of the DCC as volunteers.

In the 2nd year of the DCC the implementation of hyflex learning was approved. Limited Face-to-face is now currently happening in DCC. The BEEd students also proved themselves in the face-to-face classes. The pandemic did not really become a barrier in education, but it gave us many challenges and these challenges proved that nothing can break the dreams of the DCC students.

Bachelor of Secondary Education Filipino - Papapatuloy sa Gitna ng Pandemya

“Padayon” - pitong letra, tatlong pantig, isang salita. Ito ay salitang “Bisaya” na madalas sinasambit ng mga mag-aaral dahil ito ay nagsisilbing paalala sa kanila na wag sumuko sa kanilang mga pangarap sa buhay. “Magpatuloy” sa wikang tagalog ika nga. Ibig ipag patuloy ng mga kabataan ang kanilang pag-aaral sa kabila ng pagsubok na dumating sa buong mundo nuong 2020 at ito ay ang pandemya. Sa unang taon ng DCC sumabak sa online class ang mga mag- aaral ng Candaba. Hindi naging madali sa bawat mag-aaral ang nasabing modalidad dahil hindi lahat ay mayroon sapat na kagamitan para sa online class, ngunit hindi nagpatalo ang mga mag-aaral sa BSEd Filipino sa nasabing pagsubok bagkus pinag-igihan at pinagpatuloy nila ito. Marami sa mga mag-aaral sa BSEd Filipino ang naibilang sa “president lister” at “dean’s lister” at dahil dito napatunayan na hindi hadlang ang pandemya o anu mang pagsubok sa buhay para hindi maipagpatuloy ng isang indibidwal ang kanyang panagarap.  

Genderized General Face-to-Face Orientation of Office of Student Affairs to New Students

DHVSU Candaba Campus Orientation for New Students was held last October 14. 

An estimated 430 first-year students of DCC attended the first-ever face-to-face orientation on the campus after two years of virtual learning. 

The said event was initiated by the Office of Student Affairs on the Main Campus, the University Student Council (USC), and different units of the University. With the theme, "Honorians, Shed a Light: Transcending Over Academic Plights" the said offices led the said event as a fresh start for the return of in-person classes and inform the students about the different units and services circulating the University and the campus. 

Originally, the orientation is scheduled last September 27, 2022, but because of Typhoon Karding which affects mostly the areas in Candaba, the event was rescheduled on October 14, 2022, at 8:30 in the morning. Although there are sudden rains during that time, still the event was pushed through at the back of the campus. Of course, the said orientation will not be possible without the continuous support of the University President - Dr. Enrique G. Baking, Executive Vice President - Dr. Reynaldo C. Nicdao, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services - Dr. Dolores T. Quiambao, Vice President for Academic Affairs - Engr. Reden M. Hernandez, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training Services - Dr. Ranie B. Canlas, the Administrative Council, and the assistance of different units of the University. Additionally, the unending support of the DCC Campus Director, Engr. Basea, Academic Chairperson, Ms. Habon, OSA Coordinator, Ms. Manuntag, SC Advisers and Officers, Student Organization Officers and Advisers, LGU, USC, and the different units in the University. 

DCC Metamorphosized as It Turned Two

On September 8, 2022, DCC celebrated its 2nd founding anniversary with the theme “Metamorphosis: DCC Has Risen Above and Beyond – 2 Infinity.” The two-day celebration was packed with meaningful activities that showcased thanksgiving, camaraderie, sportsmanship, wit and smarts, and the recognition of commendable students and employees in the Campus.

DCC Tackles Face-to-Face Classes Despite Classroom Limitations

Adaptability is one trait relevant to an institution especially in the context of a VUCAD world.  And that is what DCC is about – ADAPTIVE.

With the recent shift from pure online to limited onsite classes, DCC manages to maximize its facilities and classrooms to accommodate 1, 800 students. This is made possible by scheming a schedule that allows all its programs (BEEd, BSED in English, BSED in Filipino, BS Accountancy, BSBA Marketing, BSBA Economics, BS Entrepreneurship, Public Administration, BS Civil Engineering, BS Architecture, and BS Information Technology) to experience on campus classes through a skeletal and rotational system. As of date professors and students alike find on campus classes more interesting and conducive to learning since all other factors in the teaching and learning interaction of the teachers and the students are present, like body language, facial expressions, engagement with peers, participation and discussions, and the like.

DCC hopes for more facility developments in the coming months before transitioning to a full scale of onsite education.

UN's Global Goals Week: DCC Collaborates with G17 UAP and The Roads to Rights

To achieve and promote the Agenda 2030, the Don Honorio Ventura State University - Candaba Campus joined forces with G17 University Ambassador Consortium Philippines in conducting the Global Week for achieving a sustainable world on Friday, September 23. 

  DHVSU Candaba Campus created an SDG Booth to show its full support to the realization of the SDG Agenda 2030. Aside from the SDG booth, they also discussed the importance of Sustainable Development Goals and inspired undergraduates to be responsible and to take action on the issues that our world is facing. The discussion was headed by the DHVSU G17 University Ambassador SDG 5 Gender Equality advocate, Mr. Remigio R. Dungo III, with the help of the Committee on Content, Ms. Kimberly Claire Albus, and the rest of the DCC volunteer team.

Meanwhile, students took photos on the booth created by the volunteer team and according to Ms. Albus, My experience in volunteering for the SDG was a wise choice I ever made. I was able to face my fear of public speaking and inspire others at the same time. It was tiring during the process but all worth it and fruitful at the end because I know to myself that I did it with a genuine heart to volunteer." 

On the other hand, as stated by  Ms. Kathleya Vianca P. Habon, G17 National Executive and the Head Campaign for SDG Booth, "The 17 SDGs of 2030 are not only important but they are also urgent. More and more we see how the 21st century has become more uncertain, and to some extent frightening. As citizens of the world and stewards of mother earth, it is our basic human responsibility to look after one another for our common future, our common good. Caring for our resources like what we did for Tree for Life, together with the volunteers, both faculty, non-academic, and students, spreading awareness and educating the youth about our advocacy and causes through the SDG Booth and Inspire Others, and mobilizing more voices through the Opinion Leader in the person of Mr. Clifford Lilangan, these simple acts of volunteerism and selflessness when put together contribute to the collective efforts of those who genuinely care. We have to do more of these on a regular basis." 

 The goal of the Global week to #Act4SDGs is to inspire at least 100 million people to take individual and collective SDG Action. The said event started last September 16 and will end on Sunday, September 25.

The global week has four key activations such as: Tree for Life - Let’s give back life to Mother Earth!; SDG BOOTH (Public Stunt) - Creating awareness and inspiring universities!; OPINION LEADERS - Let's inspire the world by sharing SUSTAINABLE JOURNEYs!; INSPIRE OTHERS - Mobilizing organizations and groups to take action! These undertakings would have not been possible if not for the support of the Local Government of Magalang, the DHVSU Candaba Campus, and the stakeholders. 

Let’s build a movement and act. Let’s start promoting different SDGs for making our world more sustainable and a better place to live in.

Plant A Tree and Save the World

Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) Candaba Campus answers the call of the United Nations in partnership with The Roads to Rights, G17 University Ambassadors Consortium Philippines, in celebration of the Global Goals Week from September 12 – 25, 2022.

On September 21, 2022, DHVSU Candaba Campus, Philippines in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Magalang Pampanga, Philippines through the office of the Municipal Environmental and Natural Resources went to Mt. Arayat and planted 150 sampaloc (tamarind [in English], Tamarindus indica) seedlings. Sampaloc is a leguminous fruit-bearing tree that is native to the Philippines, and is used widely for its flexibility. Its fruit, which is both sweet and sour, can be used in savory dishes to sweet desserts and drinks; while the entire tree provides shade and prevents soil erosion. 

By planting this variety, volunteers contribute to the sustainability of the environment while providing resources to the local community. This activity was participated by the academic and non-academic units, and student volunteers of the campus. One small act if done together creates a huge impact to our shared future.
