In observance of the National Disaster Resilience month, the DHVSU community, through the University Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, launched an interactive exhibit on July 29 at the Administration Building lobby.
With the theme “Kamalayan sa Kahandaan, Katumbas ay Kaligtasan,” the three-day exhibit showcases Bacolor’s achievements and experiences on disaster management through photos and video presentations, as well as a display of actual items and equipment used in conducting rescue operations and drills.
During the exhibit’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, DHVSU’s Executive Vice President Engr. Rohel S. Serrano said that though there are things people prepare for when they come, they must also prepare for “things they don’t want to happen” such as flooding and earthquakes. He thanked the Local Government Unit of Bacolor for putting up the exhibit promoting disaster awareness because it is the people, not the structures, who should be more prepared and resilient to disaster.
Meanwhile, DHVSU President Dr. Enrique G. Baking, during his message, announced that the Administration will be allotting funds of no less than two million pesos for the University to acquire its own equipment and materials that can be used for disaster operations, to be released before the current fiscal year ends. Dr. Baking additionally expressed gratitude and support for the Bacolor LGU and its efforts in disaster management.
Also present was Bacolor Mayor Eduardo “Diman” G. Datu, who likewise expressed support for the University and encouraged the community to conduct preparedness drills for students and employees alike. Mayor Datu, himself a high school graduate of DHVSU, also stressed the need to be prepared since disaster comes unexpectedly.
The said exhibit is set to run until July 31, 2019.
