DHVSU aims for internationalization, undergoes mentoring

Taking steps to make its way to the world, the administrative council and technical working group for internationalization at Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) underwent mentoring on international rankings held at the University Hostel from July 29-31, 2024.

These mentoring sessions are part of the university's vision to comply with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to enter the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings in the coming years.

“We do not want DHVSU to become an irrelevant institution. As educators, we always rise to the challenges,” said Atty. Lily Freida Macabangun-Milla, Director of Commission on Higher Education - International Affairs Services, in her message to the participants.

She also congratulated the university for being part of the bold and brave institutions entering on global metrics and standards in international education.

“Why do we need to talk about internationalization? The reality is we need a global community. Whether we like it or not, we are part of it because we want our students to have the best education,” Atty. Macabangun-Milla added.

“Mahirap talaga siya but you have to start. If we don’t start looking at what we are doing, walang mababago. ‘Wag matakot kung sa tingin niyo ay parang mahirap,” she further explained.

Led by the Office of International Partnerships and Programs (OIPP), headed by Dr. Mildred Crisostomo, the mentoring sessions aim to pave the way for DHVSU to pursue internationalization.

“For DHVSU to be placed on the world map, this is a giant leap. I believe we are ready for it, and we need to start doing the hard work,” said Dr. Crisostomo in an interview.

Prior to the three-day in-person mentoring sessions, a two-part virtual orientation was held on July 19 and 24, 2024.

The mentors were Mr. Jerome Duque of Tarlac Agricultural University, Dr. Meejay Domingo of Mariano Marcos State University, and Dr. Clyde Pumihic of Ifugao State University.

All three mentors led their respective universities in entering international rankings in the past years.
