DHVSU concludes Women’s Month celebration, supports gender fairness
After a month-long celebration filled with purple in honor of National Women’s Month, the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) at Don Honorio Ventura State University concluded with a culminating activity held at the Dr. Ernesto T. Nicdao Sports Center on March 25.
“Purple is not just a color; its shade signifies gender equality and women empowerment, and purple symbolizes the call for justice and dignity,” remarked Dr. Enrique G. Baking, University President, in his welcome address.
National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Director III, Hon. Nerrisa T. Esguerra, was the esteemed guest speaker for the event. Esguerra empowered women to listen to the experiences of women in their lives and encouraged them to take action when necessary.
“Protecting the well-being and rights of people who are more vulnerable in our society – including women – is as political and humanitarian as it is personal. And it is the key to bringing into existence the kind of life – and the kind of world – that we want and deserve,” she emphasized in her keynote speech.
Following Hon. Esguerra’s inspiring address, the GADParangal commenced, where all offices were recognized for their efforts and initiatives in promoting gender and development advocacy.
The event was attended by GAD focal persons from various DHVSU units and offices, members of the administrative council, faculty, non-teaching staff, students, and top university management, including University President Dr. Enrique G. Baking; Vice President for Academic Affairs, concurrent OICExecutive Vice President, and OIC-Vice President for Administration and Finance, Engr. Reden M. Hernandez; and Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, concurrent Dean of the Graduate School and GFPS Director, Dr. Dolores T. Quiambao.
